The fRiDaY File, for August 30

( Go back, forward )

"Sybase and Powersoft are about democracy,

all the other guys are communists!"

-- Mitchell Kertzman, President and CEO

of Sybase, making the point that

distributed processing is good and

re-centralized computing is not.

"For a good time call IBM,

hit zero a few times,

to hear the dulcet tones

"The number you have dialed...

ohh...

ohh...

ohh...

ohh...

is not a valid extension.""

-- Name witheld by request

A Chemical Engineer, a Mechanical Engineer

and a Windows programmer were riding in a

car when the engine stopped.

The Chemical Engineer said it must have

something to do with the lead level in the

gas.

The Mechanical Engineer thought it was the

fan belt.

The Windows programmer disagreed, and suggested

"Why don't we try getting out of the car,

close the doors, and then

get back into it."

A mathematician, a physicist and a programmer

were asked to prove that all odd numbers are

prime.

The mathematician said that 1 is prime, 3 is

prime, 5 is prime, 7 is prime and therefore by

induction

all odd numbers are prime.

The physicist said that 1 is prime,

3 is prime, 5 is prime, 7 is prime,

9 is not prime but that's just

experimental error,

11 is prime and therefore by

observation

all odd numbers are prime.

The programmer said that 1 is prime,

3 is prime, 5 is prime, 7 is prime,

9 is... prime,

9 is... prime,

9 is... prime...
